The Versatile Silky Terrier
About the Silky Terriers
Ranging in size from 8 - 10 pounds and 8 - 10 inches at the withers, these little dogs can be taken most places. They are a non-allergenic, non-shedding, bundle of joy to own. Born black and tan, their coats will turn to various shades of blue and tan as they mature. Daily brushing will keep their coats healthy and shiny (same as your own hair).
The Silky Terrier is a very versatile little dog. They are friendly and outgoing when greeting strangers when out on a walk, but can be territorial on their own property. They are courageous and spunky, small but feisty. They will peer anxiously into your eyes if they think you aren't feeling well then will cuddle with you til you are better. For the most part, Silkys are easily trained - although they will try and get the upper hand if they think they can get away with it. Silkys have been known to compete in many areas of competition i.e. Agility, Flyball, Tracking, Herding,Obedience, Conformation, etc. They love going for walks and car rides. They make terrific Therapy Dogs, especially when visiting the seniors. If your activity level doesn't lead to doing any of the aforementioned activities, a Silky can get all the exercise it wants - right in your own home. Just sit back in your sofa and throw a tennis ball.
